Here is what to know about the CFP title oddsboard:
The Top Spot: Wow. No. 1 OSU (12-0) remains in the top spot on the national title oddsboard, even after a dramatic 13-10 loss to No. 2 Indiana in the Big Ten title game. The Buckeyes were one week removed from an emotional 27-9 win over Michigan in Week 14, a victory that ended a four-game losing streak to their greatest rival and sealed a perfect regular season for OSU. But the elation of that win came crashing down on Saturday night, when the Hoosiers stunned the Buckeyes, ending a 30-game losing streak to Ohio State. And now, when the new AP and CFP rankings drop, the Hoosiers will be No. 1 for the first time in school history, and they will surely enter the 12-team College Football Playoff as the top seed. Again — wow.
Winners and Losers: There has indeed been some movement after Saturday night. The Buckeyes’ odds only lengthened a bit, going from +155 last week to +230 after the Big Ten title loss. Indiana, meanwhile, went from +460 to +300 with the win. The biggest shift on the board was with Alabama, which got blown out in the SEC Championship by Georgia, 28-7. While UGA moved from +800 to +700, Bama shifted from +1200 to +2700. Notre Dame didn’t play this weekend, and its odds moved from +1000 to +850, and Miami was also at home, watching its odds move from +17500 to +6500.
CFP Changes: There will be some changes heading into the next College Football Playoff when it comes to seeding, potentially making the path smoother for some of those premier programs. In late May, the CFP committee approved a proposal in which the four highest-ranked teams would earn the top four seeds and a first-round bye, removing the previous conference champion requirement. The top five ranked conference champions will still earn playoff spots. Last season, the top four seeds — Oregon, Georgia, Boise State and Arizona State — all received a bye and then lost in their quarterfinal matchups. Had the new format been in place, No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Texas and No. 4 Penn State would have been the top four seeds and had byes.
